Bunker Labs RDU announces $60,000 Grant from The Wege Foundation

Bunker Labs Raleigh-Durham (RDU) has announced that through a $60,000 grant from The Wege Foundation, it would continue to grow locally in the Research Triangle area and expand across the state via partnerships with veteran community leaders.

Following World War II, nearly 50 percent of returning Veterans started a business. Today roughly 25 percent of post-9/11 Veterans state they want to start a business, and yet less than 10 percent of small businesses are actually owned by Veterans. Bunker Labs RDU is working to present entrepreneurship as a viable post-service opportunity. Launched in December 2015 by Army Veteran Dean Bundschu, Bunker Labs RDU helps meet the unique needs of Veteran entrepreneurs by providing training, workspace, access to investors and mentors, and a peer-to-peer learning environment.

“We are extremely honored to receive this grant from The Wege Foundation,” said Dean A. Bundschu, Executive Director of Bunker Labs RDU. “We are all excited to impact the veteran-entrepreneurial community positively as we expand into Wilmington and Fayetteville as well as continuing our mission here in the Raleigh-Durham area.”

The grant enables Bunker Labs RDU to continue to build capacity as an organization, further cultivate partner relationships, and support the expansion of its programming for veterans and military spouses throughout North Carolina.

The Wege Foundation Mission Statement:
A passionate environmentalist, Peter M. Wege created The Wege Foundation in 1967 to answer his rhetorical question, “Is the planet worth saving?” The son of Steelcase, Inc., founder Peter Martin Wege has spent his time, energy, and resources ever since to make that YES happen. Wege shares his belief on the planet’s need to balance ecology with the economy in his books, ECONOMICOLOGY I and II. The Wege Foundation supports West Michigan in areas of the environment, education, the arts, and human services. Peter Wege’s hallmark phrase is, “Do all the good you can for all the people you can for as long as you can.” Those words define The Foundation’s mission and the founder himself.
